Long Reining – Intermediate Course
March 5 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Do bring your own horse or to use horses provide by Wildwoods Riding Center.
This day will be devoted to showing how a young horse can be trained to the long reins. Starting a horse one has to understand how a horse reacts to the pressure of training and how to minimize the trauma. We work and discuss the damage that can be done by using methods of training which confuse the horse by muddling up the body language cues the horse understands. This will be a course about behaviour and how best to handle it and to develop the potential of the horse. There are rules; never hit a horse, never shout at a horse, never underestimate your horse’s intelligence. I fear for people who think horses are stupid. They are very patient. In this workshop we will be valuing consistency, commitment, and competence.
We had a study day with my students and visited some of the horses I am working with. It proved to be worthwhile experience for them with lots of hands on with long reins and handling.
